‘LIVE YOUR LIFE IN COLOUR’

All the pieces in my shop are handmade by me Jane Walters-Morris.
Here’s a bit about my work and me!
All my work is colourful and bright because I believe that in order have a happy life we need to surround ourselves with objects that bring us joy, and nothing brings me more joy than surrounding myself with colour!
Presently I’m making wall hangings, bowls, platters and vessels which are all handmade using slabbing, pinching and Coiling techniques, often in a family of three. The surface patterns on my pieces are unique and will not be repeated (unless you break one and need a replacement), they are all numbered and logged, and wear my personal mark.
I’m lucky enough to live in beautiful north Nottinghamshire on the edge of Sherwood Forest and Robin Hood country, and I work in a studio in ‘The Dukeries’ on the Welbeck Estate.
I have two little dogs, Frida a JRT and Kharla a chihuahua. As you’ve probably guessed I’m a huge Frida Kahlo fan, not so much due to her work but rather because of the remarkable woman that she was. Another massive icon for me is Yayoi Kusama. If you know her work you will see how she has influenced me. Another influence is the wonderful Australian ceramic artist Penny Evans.
Like so many ceramic artists working with clay has been life changing for me. I was accepted onto a 3d design Ceramics degree course at Loughborough University Collage of Art and Design when I was 35. I would encourage anyone try have a go with clay - I know you won’t regret it!
